My first art class was in the second grade at E. R. Dickson Elementary School in Mobile, Alabama. The next class occurred as a 17 year old at the University of South Alabama in 1970 then Everett Community College in the late seventies and recently at Skagit Valley College. Married in 1979, my attention shifted away from my art journey, fortunately returning in 2000 while being treated for cancer. I never lost the love of art during those 21 years. I did some watercolors and constantly used the camera in that time. Two years later and divorced I began classes with Ann Reid in the fall quarter of 2002. Magically, I stepped into the most comfortable place in the world as though I had never left.
Creating: How do I explore and experiment? I grab on to an idea and begin developing it, watching it evolve often to something quite different. This is the pleasurable aspect of the creative process. With the final idea in mind, I approach it with agitation at first, and then find myself calmly absorbed in the progression, forgetting to eat and sometimes breathe.
I am on a journey in my life and art. I am in a place where ìI haven't a clue as to how my story will end. But that's all right.
When you set out on a journey and night covers the road, that's when you discover the stars.' -- Nancy Willard
