| Janis Conklin Anacortes WA Jan Conklin has pursued her art education through the Advertising Art School of Portland, OR, the Portland Art Museum Art School and Eastern Oregon State University, in addition to which she has attended numerous workshops. Her art affiliations include the 'Art League North' and the Depot Life Drawing Group in Anacortes, WA. Jan's work has hung in many galleries throughout the Northwest as well as being accepted by many shows. Her recent Juried Shows include: Puget Sound Country Art Exhibition, Seattle, the ìNu Artî exhibit at the Anacortes Art Festival and Unclad. Like many artists Jan seems to have always been drawn to art. "From my earliest memory, I have been making art. Although I studied and practiced commercial art extensively, my preference is fine art. Figurative has been a favorite subject. There is none other, in my experience, that is as challenging, complex, or satisfying. Also, I respond to the rhythmic patterns I see in nature and find them exciting to interpret in my landscapes. Although I have worked in oils, clay, watercolors and ink, drawing has always been my most comfortable, satisfying means of expression. I find that conte crayon, pastels and most recently oil pastels are a natural link between drawing and painting, moving my work into a new versatile direction. |
