| Vicki Galasso Kirkland WA Vicki Galasso was raised in Los Angeles, CA. Her interest in visual imagery began at an early age. After moving to the Pacific Northwest in 1990, she explored a number of mediums including jewelry design/fabrication and paper casting. Travel abroad to Europe provided the opportunity to visit major national art museums. Inspired by these works of art and searching for a deeply satisfying and challenging medium, Vicki began her painting, drawing and art history studies in 1999. "I have always been drawn to the human form in visual imagery. Therefore an emphasis on figurative work was a natural place for me to begin. I see power in every person who interests me. The work results from my exploration of and my reaction to the subject's energy, physicality, psychological and emotional state." Vicki began with portrait studies of those closest to her - friends and family."The portraits are very close up views, intense and scrutinizing. I want my viewers to have an emotional response to my work, to feel like they have learned something about the subject (particularly if it is a portrait). I work on a larger scale and I like expressive marks, color and pattern." |
