| Patricia Haase Steilacoom WA I started sculpting in 1994, carving, directly in wood. I carved human (and half human) figures from my imagination, and later modeled figures in clay. My awareness of posture and anatomy comes as much from teaching Yoga for 15 years, as from my medical background.My first experience sculpting from a live model was in the Summer of 2003. Figure sculptures which conveys a specific personality, mood, and setting to the viewer, delight me. For example: my woodcarving called, 'The Kite Flyers,' has been described as 'the guy with his daughter, resting on their hike', ' two friends picnicing at the park', and 'that married couple sitting on the beach'. Currently, most of my work is in clay. I plan to continue casting some works in Bronze, use cement for larger outdoor sculptures, learn more about relief sculpture, and return to woodcarving. |
