Don Haggerty
Seattle WA
Don Haggerty is an artist with two first loves - brushwork and figurative painting. These he expresses through oil-on-canvas, as well as conte-on-paper, and his work can frequently be seen exhibited throughout the Puget Sound region. Though born in Seattle, Don grew up in Taiwan where he acknowledges having gained from Chinese artists his deep appreciation for the beauty and power of a finely executed brush stroke - "a brush ballet" he calls it. The appreciation is reflected in the rich brushwork of Don's paintings and the intuitive line work of his drawings.
After moving back to seattle in the 70's, it wasn't until 1994 that Don began painting seriously the plein air landscapes of Whidbey Island and the North Cascades. Through frequent visits to museums and galleries, Don says that he feels that he has studied under the likes of Monet, Klimt, N.C. Wyeth, J. W. Waterhouse and John Singer Sargent. "It is through the works of such artists that I gained permission to paint freely in my own style".
Since 2005 Don's work has been exhibited in over 20 exhibitions as well as six solo exhibitions. In 1999, Don turned to figurative work which continues to be his focus.
