Tom Jensen
Everett WA
Born in 1948, Tom M. Jensen spent his childhood in the Pacific Northwest, attending Benson Polytechnic High School in Portland. Drawing came naturally to him--and a strong competitive instinct compelled him to perfect his skills.
In 1967, Tom enlisted in the Marines and was sent to join the fight in Vietnam. Upon his return, he worked in pen and ink drawings and landed a job as a technical illustrator at Boeing. The job emphasized very detailed inanimate objects, but at home Tom explored his fascination with people and portraiture. He took up etching and started entering his work into local competitions and shows, quickly taking awards in the Anacortes Arts & Crafts show and the Edmonds Arts Festival. A trip to France in 1998 inspired Tom to investigate color. On a second trip to Italy, he taught himself watercolor and thus launched his exploration into hues, tones and values of the color spectrum. Oils and oil pastels have become a favorite yet Tom refuses to limit himself to a particular medium or subject.
Tom recently won the Grand Prize award in International Artist Magazine's People & Figures competition. |
