Jason achieved his MA. M. Ed. with an emphasis on Creative Arts and Education from Lesley University in Cambride, MA and has been teaching and creating art at Sammamish High School in Bellevue, WA for the past seven years. Though he currently resides in Seattle, he grew up in Pennsylvania and graduated from Tyler School of Arts in Philadelphia.
Jason tells us, "I find it fascinating that the figure connects viewers so closely and personally, that even old broken pieces left by ancient cultures that are dug out of the ground strike us as beautiful and precious. I believe the figurative artwork, no matter how old and weathered, acknowledges and emphasizes the beauty of the human being and our human connectedness over time. Whether thebody is idealized or its so called ' flaws' are exaggerated, a figurative piece of art compels, transforms, and binds us with strong feelings, because the figure itself reflects our humanity across geographic borders and times. My work is referential of these concepts of humanity. In order to visually articulate the perennial nature of the figure, the pieces are fragmented by ancient disasters or erosion. They're stained and fired to look old and soiled, as if they spent years buried in the earth. I combine this art technique with contemporary renderings to emphasize the timelessness of the human figure."
