Barbara Fugate
Seattle WA

"If Fine Art is to be a direct and relevant experience of life, I remain committed to working directly from life in order to find it. My artwork is figurative and as much about the sitter as it is about my thoughts, feelings and actions. I have been inspired by Baroque ideas of time, space and making pictures that enter into the psychic space of the viewer. Greco-Roman myths crossing paths with Christian iconography has also acted as a spring board for my figure compositions."

Fugate received her BFA from Western Kentucky University and her MFA in painting from Miami University of Ohio. Her work has been exhibited in galleries in Kentucky, Washington and New York, and published in The Best of Drawing and Sketching by Terry Sullivan.

In 2005, Fugate was invited to lecture at Harvard University on her drawing method in a lecture entitled "Gesture Drawing: That Which shows Itself in Itself" in conjunction with the World Phenomenology Institute conference.

Currently, Fugate instructs drawing and painting classes in Seattle at Gage Academy.
