I started drawing with a purpose in 1996. I wanted to really represent what I saw. I focused those skills into watercolor in 2000. I gained experience through watercolor workshops, how-to books, and many trying hours of practice.
In 2007, I decided to move into oil paints. With oils, I have found the texture and vibrancy that I was looking for in my paintings.
Portraits, whether they are of people or animals, are special to me. They are intimate glimpses of a moment when I feel connected, even if from afar, with another life.
Altogether, I feel that painting is just great fun and it truly brings me joy. I work both from life and reference photos, which help to capture the moment. I then work out all the kinks in my studio at my home. |
