Hard-edged glass and metals challenge my ability to translate ideas, emotions, and impressions into strong visual statements that protest life's injustices and celebrate its wonders.
I am intrigued by the interplay of light on and through glass images. This interaction of light and glass affects the colors, shapes, and textures of the images. As a result, the viewer's experience of the glass images is continually changing. While light may damage other art forms, it is the crucial element that enlivens my work. In essence, I paint with light.
While utilizing the traditional glass construction methods in which I was trained, my recent work has been freed of classical constraints. There are no tiny glass pieces cut to a rigid pattern, restricted by tight lead lines, or confined to geometric frames.
Instead, my art glass mosaics feature loosely flowing patterns of color with free-form borders. Individual glass pieces are supported by lacy metalwork that often highlights fused glass inclusions. My unique style has evolved during 28 years of experimentation with design and technique. |
