| Amanda Scott Salem OR I create art for the same reason every artist creates it. Making pictures is our chosen way of observing, exploring, and speaking. We either have something new to say, or are saying the same thing someone else has already said. Hopefully we are repeating old news in a new way since there is nothing new under the sun. Our consciousness is part of human consciousness after all. A true artist, however, knows themselves, and is not afraid to know their folly. A true artist is society's canary. The tide that takes us all is felt like the ripple before the storm. Our job is to hone our senses and act as a barometer. Sometimes in paintings I see junk, and even then, I see the condition of our psyche. |
